Business Controller (Operations)

About the role

HG is looking for a Business Controller to strengthen our Finance team in Almere. In this key role, you act as a strategic partner to senior management and play a central role in steering financial performance, cost control, and decision‑making across the business.

You combine strong analytical skills with deep business insight and translate financial data into clear recommendations. You work closely with Finance, Operations and senior stakeholders across multiple markets, contributing to both operational excellence and long‑term strategic initiatives. Finance plays a critical role in HG’s strategy, and your expertise will directly support sustainable growth and value creation.

What you will do

• Lead the budgeting, forecasting and long‑term planning processes, ensuring timely delivery and high forecast accuracy specific for the Operational costs (COGS and the Warehouse- & Distribution costs, incl. Inventory Control).

• Monitor and control operational costs and cost price developments across the organization.

• Track cost‑saving initiatives, evaluate financial impact and pro-actively propose corrective actions where needed

• Prepare monthly management reports and perform in‑depth variance analyses on P&L, balance sheet and KPIs specific for the Operational costs (COGS and the Warehouse- & Distribution costs, incl. Inventory Control).

• Clearly explain financial results, deviations and business drivers to senior management and stakeholders.

• Act as a financial gatekeeper between actuals, budget and forecast, identifying risks and opportunities.

• Support strategic decision‑making through financial modelling, scenario analyses and business cases.

• Identify deficiencies in data, reporting, and processes, proactively developing improvement proposals and subsequently implementing them in collaboration with the organization.

• Partner with Operations to improve performance and drive efficiency initiatives.

• Contribute to the development of financial dashboards, reporting tools and data governance.

• Ensure data quality and a single source of truth within Finance.

You will report to the Manager Business Control.

Job requirements

• Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field

• 5–8+ years of experience as a Business Controller or Finance Business Partner, preferably in the field of handling financial operations for a logistical party or production facility

• Strong analytical capabilities combined with a solid understanding of business dynamics

• Proven experience in financial accounting

• Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting, cost control and management reporting

• Ability to translate complex financial data into clear insights and recommendations

• Strong communication skills and confidence in working with senior stakeholders

• Proactive, critical and results‑driven mindset
